MEN USING PUBLIC TOILETS FOR SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS

14/04/2025

The Foyle News has learned that some men are using public spaces for sexual encounters around the city. Concerns have been raised in a number of locations in the city where men are meeting by arrangement with other men for sex in public including public toilets.

Locations including Prehen playing fields and the laybuy's on Victoria road are among outdoor locations. Other locations include the toilets in Foyleside Shopping Centre, Richmond Centre and the Millennium Forum.

The Foyle News has learned that Foyleside, Richmond Centre and Millennium Forum toilets are being used for sexual encounters by men using a local ''cruising and dogging'' app. The Foyle News was contacted by members of the public raising concerns after two readers caught men having sexual activity in the toilets.

The Foyle News downloaded the ''cruising app'' called ''Grindr'' and found that men do indeed arrange meets in toilets of both Foyleside and Richmond shopping centres while management have been unaware of the arrangements. We also found that the Millennium Forum was also being used both during the day and during performance times.

The PSNI say extra patrols will be carried out in these areas but anyone who witnesses illegal activity should contact them on 101 or 999 in an emergency or you can contact security in the premises affected. Foyleside, Richmond Centre and Millennium Forum declined to comment.
